Since it wasn't clear in the description as to what lights up, I expected it to be the hands since it had that greenish color to them. When I wore it to a movie, they didn't light up so I thought it was broken (I lost my instruction sheet). Later, someone showed me how to push the stem to make the face light. The date is very tiny and I didn't even know it was there until I used a magnifying glass. It keeps good time and I can read it in the dark, which is what I like.
